Semper Opera House Guided Tour
Minimum of participants: 15

Built 1838-1841 by Gottfried Semper, gutted by fire in 1869.

The house was completely destroyed in 1945.
In 1977 - 1985 the theatre was scrupulously and to a great extent faithfully reconstructed,
considering the requirements of a modern opera house. As one says, regarding the acoustic,

and proudly is presenting a use to capacity of 98 %!
It is the only theater in Germany that bears the name of its architect.

An english speaking guide will present to you this inimitable masterpiece of architecture.

Old Masters Pictures Gallery Guided Tour
Minimum of participants: 15

The world renown of the Dresden Old Masters Picture Gallery is founded in its outstanding
collection of high-ranking masterpieces. Among the primary focuses of its holdings are Italian
painting of the Renaissance - as exemplified by major works of Raphael, Giorgione and Titian - as
well as works in the Mannerist and Baroque styles. Of equal significance is the inventory of Dutch
and Flemish paintings of the seventeenth century. Not only are Rembrandt and his followers
represented with a large number of works of superb quality, but the collection also comprises
paintings by Vermeer and Ruysdael and the great Flemish artists Rubens, Jordaens and Van Dyck.

The gallery moreover presents major works of Old German and Old Dutch painting by artists such
as Jan van Eyck, Dürer, Cranach and Holbein. Splendid paintings by Spanish and French artists of
the seventeenth century – among them Ribera and Murillo, Poussin and Lorrain – are also to be
found in the collection.

In addition to the quality of the holdings, the spacious setting provided by the Semper Building
as well as its magnificent furnishings meet the highest standards of excellence. Hundreds of
thousands of art admirers are drawn to this picture gallery every year.

Renaissance and Baroque treasures was placed on view for the first time in eight presentation

Porcelain Collection Guided Tour
Minimum of participants: 15

No ceramics collection in the world can claim higher quality and greater magnitude than the
Dresden Porcelain Collection. It owes its existence to August the Strong, who once dubbed his
passion for a material that is as costly as it is fragile the »maladie des porcellaines« – Porcelain
Disorder.

Comprising some 20,000 pieces of Chinese, Japanese and Meissen porcelain, the collection was
originally to be placed on display in the ”Japanese Palais” in the Dresden Neustadt, a ”porcelain
palace” purchased and altered especially for this purpose. This plan, however, was never carried
to realization.

The present-day arrangement of the works on the walls of the Zwinger essentially corresponds to
the king’s plans for his porcelain palace. Here Chinese vessels and figures of the Song, Ming and
Kangxi periods as well as Japanese Imari and Kakiemon porcelain from Arita predominate. The
development of Meissen porcelain from the time of its invention in 1708 to the late eighteenth
century can also be traced in works of superior artistry.

An english speaking guide will present to you the most important highlights of the collection.

City Sightseeing Tour by bus
Minimum of  participants: 30

Dresden is the capital of the state of Saxony and has a population of 490.000 inhabitants. It is
situated on the river Elbe and can be considered as one of the greenest cities in Europe, with green
spaces and recreation areas covering 63 per cent of its area. Due to its beautiful architecture and
surrounding landscape, Dresden is often called “the Florence on the Elbe”, an expression revealing
the charm of the city. Dresden came to prominence relatively late in Saxon history – not until 1485
did the electors choose this city for their principal residence.

Dresden's most glorious period, both in art and in architectural innovation, occurred from 1697 to
1763, when two electors of Saxony also served as kings of Poland, controlling one of Europe's
largest empires. The last monarch abdicated in 1918, and Saxony joined the modern German nation.

Dresden was destroyed in the firestorms of the 13th -14th February allied bombardment in 1945.
During this attack about 25,000 people died. After the war, the city was reconstructed. Even though
Dresden today is a modern and lively city, it still kept the flair of the former Saxon residence. At the
latest by 2006, in time for the city's 800 year jubilee, Dresden will have been restored to what it once
was - a large city with a pulsating centre and one of the most beautiful cities in Germany.

An english speaking guide will present to you not only the most important sightseeings of the
city of Dresden but also the highlights at the suburban area, par examble:
- the historical centre of Dresden,
- the Grosser Garten Park, the largest and the most beautiful park in Dresden,
- the "transparent factory", an innovative combination of art and industry in an attractive
architectural environment by the Volkswagen group,
- the Albrechtsberg Palace, the Eckberg Palace and the Lingnerpalace on the right bank of the Elbe
- the famous bridge over the river Elbe, the "Blue Wunder Bridge"
- the well known milkshop "Pfunds Molkerei" with rich decor in art nouveau.
